Economy 7 Immersion Heater Element

Hi we have an immersion heater that is supposed to run on economy 7 electricity and heat up our water through the night.

Interchangeable with sangamo and horstmann economy 7 units. I have an economy 7 water tank fitted with two immersion heaters one at the bottom of the tank and one about halfway up. I have an economy 7 immersion heater setup with a horstmann economy 7 quartz control unit. They act like a kettle to heat the surrounding water in the cylinder.

This stopped working around a year ago for no apparent reason and were trying to figure out what the problem would be basically theres 2 switches in the cupboard that the tank. After 15 years they were replaced as they had started to heat inefficiently. A typical immersion heater how it works and how to test it. Countdown boost display shows boost time remaining.

One morning i woke up to find there was no hot water and since then the economy 7 mode has not worked. Initially i thought the bottom economy 7 thermostat had gone but this wasn t the case. Designed for use with economy 7 off peak rate overnight electricity plans. Unsurprisingly they were covered in limescale.

The boost mode still works. Pre programmed automatic boost and three on demand options 30 minutes 1 2 hours. The lower heater is wired to a circuit which is only live during cheap rate and the upper is wired on a normal circuit which is live all the time. I replaced them with new elements.

If an element in an immersion starts to heat theres no noise. I have an economy 7 boiler which has two temperature controlled heating elements. Economy 7 water not heating overnight the entire water heating unit has had both elements boost and e7 replaced only 3 months ago but in the last 48 hours the e7 has stopped working it is not coming on at night when the radiators come on. Suitable for use with single dual or twin element immersion heaters.

The off peak element was placed on just over 50.
